Simply put, without donations there would be no WHSO! The funds we collect from our compassionate contributors allow us to finance our international medical relief trips, which compromise a major part of WHSO's efforts during the school year. This is an invaluable opportunity to earn clinical experience while aiding under-served communities, and students year after year comment on the gratification of such an experience.

In 2011, we will be sending MSI students to Belize, Costa Rica, and Honduras and MSII students to Ecuador and Nicaragua. However, the cost for sending seventy students abroad with adequate supplies and medications for our patients can well exceed $80,000. Each trip is therefore funded by individual student fundraising and donations from friends, family, hospitals, local businesses, corporations, and the Wayne State University School of Medicine Alumni Association.

If you are interested in making a tax deductible donation, please make out a check payable to the Wayne State University School of Medicine for the amount of your choosing. If you would like to make a donation to the organization as a whole, please write WHSO Medicine Acquisition Fund in the memo. If you would like to sponsor the trip of a particular student, please write MSIT (Medical Student International Travel) and the student's name instead. All checks can be sent to the following address:

Wayne State University School of Medicine

Attn: Steven Gannon, WSU WHSO Treasurer
Richard J. Mazurek, MD Medical Education Commons
Office of Student Affairs-Suite 315
320 E. Canfield Ave.
Detroit, MI 48201

Every trip also requires that a large amount of medical supplies and prescription drugs be taken to each country. Please view the list of supplies if you think you may be able to donate. At this time, we cannot accept expired medication. Supply donations are also tax deductible - please contact us if you are interested.

If you would still like to donate for a 2011 spring break trip, we can accept donations by check up until MAY 1st. After this date, WSU will not process any paper checks until the following school year and your student will have to wait several months for that money. HOWEVER, the May 1st deadline does not apply to online donations, which can be submitted and processed at any time.

We are also a registered non-profit. All donations should be tax-deductible and our Tax ID is 28-2735531
